Winter Working

Motto of the Month
Introduction

Those of you who visit the site regularly will know I had an unsatisfactory attempt at creating a search facility for the whole site, I failed miserably, or perhaps "FrontPage" server extensions are not all they are supposed to be.
Anyway those of you who have visited my "Home Page" will know I do not claim to be an I.T. wizard, highways maintenance is what I have some knowledge of.
However, to try and get round the lack of an all embracing search facility I have revamped the "Alphabet Listing" page, including more items and more comprehensive descriptions, so that if you use the search facility in your browser this should help in directing you to an area of the site where you will find appropriate information.
A truly new page you will find there is one on
drainage of the road pavement.
The other new items that you will find listed alphabetically are all referring to existing pages, or parts of pages, that you may not have discovered in the past.
Judging by the increased number of hits recorded it appears to be a more popular page than before the makeover.

Winter Working

It is November, the dark evenings are upon us and the days can be cold. It would be nice if all highway maintenance work could stop for the winter and we would all still get paid, but life is not like that.
So plan any work with bituminous materials carefully.
This means do not attempt to lay too much material in a short day, if things go wrong you do not have the convenience of a long light evening to sort things out.
You may need to consider a change in bitumen viscosity to increase workability, but choose your sites and the bituminous mixtures you modify wisely, remember it will be hot again next summer and you do not want any wheel-tracking.

Motto of the Month

"Do not ignore the little things, often the mosquito is more trouble than the elephant."
